This Saturday, 22 February, the ever-active Katheti has invited us to beautiful Poros for a tribute to Poros-born Dimitris Gogkos — Bagianteras — and Methana-born Giorgos Tsoros — Batis. Together with our distinguished collaborators Anestis Barmpatsis, author of the book “Bagianteras – the pre-war period”, and Stavros Kourousis, author of the book “From the tamboura to the bouzouki”, we will talk about the two great rebetes and perform selected songs from their discography.

We didn’t create it, but as we discussed in detail in another thread, there’s no question of it having been altered or manipulated (I’m mentioning this for those who didn’t follow that discussion).
Ah, so the theme is geographical—the Saronic Gulf, not “rebetes from Ba-.”
We’d have Lorenzo Barousis and Babis Gole on the bill if they were!
Beyond the joke, Katheti does very serious work in the area, both in culture and in protecting the natural environment (and not only that).
Ilias Rizos will also be attending the event. He restored Batis’s house in Methana, and a video will be shown featuring interviews he conducted with people who knew Batis.
At least we’ll try not to distort the sound of Tetras (sic).
It would be interesting to see this video. Perhaps if the event is held in Athens at some point too, or if it is uploaded to a digital platform…
