a incredible story:

Mitsos Matzis: Begraben mit seiner Klarinette im Land Epirus

This album is a document! I think I have never come across Nikos Chalkias playing, he is of course top rank as his younger brother Tassos also is. Another interesting feature of the album is Rumeli songs played on bouzouki, the evolution of the older Tambouras that was very popular all over mainland Greece.
A8 Miralogia is one of the best examples I ‘ve heard!

The Μπατζαίοι family is one of the most important klarino players of Epirus.

Hallo Niko,

We have left the lemma “klapadora” pending. And not so much [as someone will see if they look through the 234 or so messages] as to what the klapadora roughly is, but rather whether or not it is connected with the Corfiots.

In the search tool of the Parliament Library, I see a testimony that supports this connection:

“…The Corfiots showed that they knew how to handle the weapon and not merely the …klapadora …”

From the NEWSPAPER OF THE NEWS, dated: 14/10/1956 https://digitallibrary.parliament.gr/newspapers/items/b7d45b72-a034-4e9f-ba9b-f8472c40a045?search=%CE%BA%CE%BB%CE%B1%CF%80%CE%B1%CE%B4%CF%8C%CF%81%CE%B1

So, I am bringing back an earlier related proposal, so that it can become a glossary entry:

Do we agree, or are there still doubts?

All the references describe a musical instrument.

“The word derives from klapadóra or klapadoúra, a noisy brass wind instrument used in a philharmonic band, belonging to the cornet family.”

Mr Spyro, the objection concerned the connection between klapadoras (κλαπαδόρας) and Corfiots [: whether it was an established nickname or characterization of them], and not so much the instrument.

The connection made by Kyriakos (Corfiot = klapadoras (κλαπαδόρας)) is reasonable

“By way of introduction, as early as 1929, a satirical song — a revue number featuring Petros Kyriakos’s voice accompanied by a chorus — was recorded. Its title was “The One Being Praised”. It is a “drinking song”. The tavern patrons ask Mr Yiorgis, who does nothing but

drink, to recite “the six psalms” for them, and he is happy to oblige: he begins to “chant”, parodying ecclesiastical hymns with oriental flourishes, while mentioning characteristic traits of the inhabitants of Greece’s various regions. Each verse begins with the phrase “The one being praised, the one being glorified”. Among the various descriptions, we will also encounter (stereotypical) descriptions of the Ionian Islanders […]

Corfiot klapadoras

[…] Ionian serenader […].

[…]. In the same song, the Corfiot, and the Ionian Islander more generally, are directly associated with Ionian music. The brass instruments of the philharmonic bands parading through Corfu’s streets (this is what the klapadoras refers to), as well as the kantada, a genre identified with the Ionian Islands and particularly popular in old Athens at the same time, show that, in the consciousness of Athens’s popular classes, the Ionian Islands were mentally associated with their rich musical tradition”
