Tezáchi. It can be heard in the song:
“I Don’t Want Your Money” by Tountas, performed with Eskenazy
“…I want little fish, there in the market, aman, aman!
there must be a tezáchi, selling fish…”
Tezáchi [teziáchi, tezáki and teziáki] = a (usually) wooden counter on which bottles of alcoholic drinks, glasses, coffee cups, etc. were placed in coffeehouses or grocery shops; a sideboard.
[ETYMOLOGY tezáki < Turkish tezgâh < Persian]
Also known from our literature: we find the form “tezáchi” in Papadiamantis (in “Vardianos sta Sporka”: “…and Michalis took the bottle of mastic from the tezáchi and began to drink voluptuously in large doses…”
Lountemis refers to it as “tezáki”, while Kazantzakis calls it “teziáki”.
